Azithromycin for Blepharokeratoconjunctivitis in Children
- Oral Azithromycin 5mg/kg/day
- Once daily dosing
- Recheck in monthly intervals
- May combine with other topical anti-inflammatory treatment as needed
Side Effects
- GI (most common): diarrhea 5%, nausea 4%, abdominal pain 3%, vomiting 1%, dyspepsia, flatulence, constipation, hyptertrophic pyloric stenosis in neonates
- Skin: Rash, puritis, photosensitivity, angioedema. erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson, toxic epidermal necrolysis, DRESS
- CNS: headache, dizzines, fatigue, exacerbation of myasthenia gravis
- Hepatotoxicity
- Heart: QT prolongation and arrhythmias
- Hearing: hearing loss and tinnitus
- Psychiatric- anxiety, aggression
