Azithromycin for Blepharokeratoconjunctivitis in Children

  • Oral Azithromycin 5mg/kg/day
  • Once daily dosing
  • Recheck in monthly intervals
  • May combine with other topical anti-inflammatory treatment as needed
  • GI (most common): diarrhea 5%, nausea 4%, abdominal pain 3%, vomiting 1%, dyspepsia, flatulence, constipation, hyptertrophic pyloric stenosis in neonates
  • Skin: Rash, puritis, photosensitivity, angioedema. erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson, toxic epidermal necrolysis, DRESS
  • CNS: headache, dizzines, fatigue, exacerbation of myasthenia gravis
  • Hepatotoxicity
  • Heart: QT prolongation and arrhythmias
  • Hearing: hearing loss and tinnitus
  • Psychiatric- anxiety, aggression
