Reading Mechanics
- Visual/ocular characteristics needed for reading/work
- Testing in theses areas needed to assess the visual requirements for reading
- This does not include the brain processing needed to accomplish reading comprehension or reading memory.
Visual Acuity
- Near best corrected vision
- Distance best corrected vision
Convergence
Accommodation
- Accommodative amplitudes with dynamic retinoscopy
- Near point of accommodation
Stereo acuity
- contour stereo test (stereo fly) or randot test
Smooth Pursuit
- Horizontal slow eye movements should be repeatable and accurate for approximately 45 degrees to each side
- Can also test vertical movements
Saccades
- Voluntary horizontal saccades should be quick and accurate
Ocular Alignment
- Near cover/uncover test
- Near alternate cover test
